The word ‘goldwork’ is used to describe embroidery with metal threads and wires, even if they are not gold!  This technique has a long history all over the world; originally reserved for items of state and ceremony, now it can be enjoyed by everyone.
Some threads are stitched over to secure them to the fabric (couching), others are cut and stitched through – like beads (cutwork). Â This design focuses on couching.
Long and short stitch (the foundation of silk shading) is a beautiful stitch and the flat or floss silk in this design is the perfect way to show it off.
This design fits in an 8 inch ring frame and is an ideal starting point for goldwork and silk shading, or for a more experienced embroiderer to try real silk threads and a wide variety of gold threads and wires.
The kit explores four types of couching with five types of thread and wire in different sizes, plus long and short stitch in flat silk.
In the box you get full instructions for each stitch, with tips on how to achieve the best results.
Kit contains:  linen fabric and calico backing, silk embroidery thread, pearl purl, smooth passing thread, twist thread, check thread, millary wire, sewing thread, needles, design and full instructions.
The kit comes in a presentation box for handy storage. Fabric is wrapped with acid-free tissue to protect your embroidery project.
